About

Working from my workshop just outside Cardiff, I create unique lathe-turned and hand-carved sculptural forms that explore the relationship between material, process, and transformation.

I use only ethically sourced and repurposed timber, often working with wood felled within a few miles of my workshop which might otherwise be discarded. By transforming these materials into unique sculptural objects, I aim to celebrate its beauty and encourage a deeper appreciation of the natural processes that continue to shape it long after the tree has been felled.

Working only with green (freshly felled) timber, I embrace its inherent qualities rather than attempting to control them.  Through turning and carving, I reveal and respond to the material , allowing the wood itself to guide aspects of the creative process.

A distinctive element of my work is the deliberate incision of the wood with fine, sometimes paper-thin cuts. This introduces areas of flexibility and tension within the form, inviting movement from within. As the wood gradually dries, it continues to breathe and respond to its environment, subtly twisting, warping and undulating in ways that cannot be entirely predicted.

I celebrate these changes as evidence of the wood's ongoing life. The finished object is not a static artefact but a continuation of the tree's story, carrying traces of its former life while assuming a new identity.  The wood continues its life in a sculptural form—an embodiment of change and organic memory, still turning in response to its ever-changing environment.
